Random Thought Of The Day

I think I will start a company named Orange. I will create a few consumer electronic devices. Their names will all start with a small letter o. They will only come in two colors: orange and black. I will price them very high just long enough for optimal saturation of early adopters and clammoring demand. Then I will completely half the price, and release a new version that only updates the software and a very small set of hardware features. It will be fun, and I will make lots of money!

Apple does do some good things, but they could be much better.

Can someone tell me what these things are?

A Little Upsetting

So...I read in the news that, Timewarner Cable is actually going to start testing charging people for their internet usage instead of giving people unlimited as they have for a decade. One of my biggest annoyances with cell phone carriers is that they limit you to "minutes". Even more so, if I make a call that's dropped by THEIR towers, I get charged for that whole minute, rather than oh say 4 seconds.

Now, cell phone companies are starting to push forward "unlimited" plans. Sure they may cost a little more, but they're going towards it. It looks like internet service providers are going backwards instead. What's even worse is that compared to most of the rest of the world, we pay more for slower speeds when it comes to internet service.

I've said it over and over again, but Telecommunication Companies have a stranglehold on the consumer, and it's completely allowed by our government. In the same way the oil companies have a stranglehold on us, these telecommunication companies pretty much say "jump" and the consumer has to respond with "yes master". Ugh...

Anyway, here's a link to the story:
http://www.dailytech.com/Time+Warner+Starts+Metered+Internet+Service+Test+in+Texas/article11965.htm

To be honest, I agree that the telcom companies diserve to get paid for their services. However, corporate America has become way too comfortable with easily hurting the consumer without reprecussion. To demand more for a service that's already behind in the world economy, and sub-par for standards in countries like South Korea, Japan, China, Sweden, and many others is a blatent slap in the face to Americans who deserve better.

My new favorite coffee shop

It's called SimplyYummy, and its in Reynolda Village in Winston
Salem. They serve natural organic brews and have a great selection of
unique food items. Best of all, its cheaper than Starbucks. They
also have a dog friendly patio where you can eat outside with your
puppy pal or pals.

Discovered a new park today

fiancée in person. Snapped this pic for my contacts, but its too good
not to share with everyone.

Everyday Beauty

Sometimes I'm not sure if many people stop to notice the simple beauty
in so many things we take for granted. I took a picture of this tree
today that brightened my day significantly. Just thought I'd share
that feeling with everyone.

Greensboro Bicentenial

We went to one of the events this past Saturday that Greensboro is
having for their 200th birthday. There were live bands everywhere and
many of the shops stayed open late. It was a lot of fun, and I was
able to see one of my favorite bands for free: Athenaeum.

Driving

I find driving in the US these days somewhat frustrating.  I'm not exactly a "granny" driver, however, I'm definitely not a speed demon.  I am definitely not the best driver in the world, but for the most part I have learned my lessons about driving recklessly.

Today alone I managed to avoid several people hitting me while they either weren't paying attention, or were just of the opinion that the road is theirs and "you better move".  I think this mentality that you "own the road" you drive on needs to be squashed.  I mean, I can't tell you how many times people drive almost on my back bumper because I'm not going as fast as they want me to on "their road".  I have people in my neighborhood who drive about 45 mi/hr in a 25 mi/hr zone.  I hope every day that they don't run over any of the little children that play in the neighborhood.

The main reason for so many accidents is that people are no longer driving defensively.  Many people are just too busy to pay attention to their driving.  I'm all for picking up the phone and calling someone, or answering a call...just try and be as careful as possible.  Maybe make the call when you're at a stop light, or stop sign.  Why can't we as responsible adults try and drive more considerate.  It might save your life (or someone elses) someday.

United Empire of America

I firmly believe that the United States of America is the Brittian/Rome/Persia/Greece/Egypt of our current time. Our country has amassed a vast empire, though it may not be in the form of territory or "land". Many might dissagree with me, however, becuase it's a "world market" in today's planet. I would also like to point out that during each other "empire" that this world has seen, there were also other societies in their "world market". The only reason I make a point of the empire argument is that every empire falls, and I believe that the US is poised for one of the biggest falls of them all if things do not change. Not all of my posts will be as serious as this, but I think I'm going to use this blog to speak my mind on things.

I digress...

To avoid making this post too long, I think I will make several concentrated "point posts" over time to share my views on specific items. This will be fun!
